Inverness Airport
Safe Approach Program
The Inverness Airport and the Federal Aviation Administration are considering an obstruction removal project in the future to preserve and protect the airport and the citizens who live in the surrounding area. The airport and the FAA would like to utilize this opportunity to inform the public about this project and are requesting feedback from property owners affected by obstructions near Inverness Airport. A recent survey indicates that features such as trees, poles, and other objects are negatively impacting airport operations. In total, 230 properties were identified as having some form of obstruction to the airport’s safety surfaces. These obstructions can create safety concerns and also reduce the overall utility of the airport.
Obstruction Map

Visualizing Obstacles on an Airport Approach Path
Description: This diagram shows how trees, buildings, and poles near the runway can interfere with the safe flight path of arriving aircraft. To keep both pilots and the local community safe, the airspace around the airport must remain clear of tall objects.
The Impact of Obstacles: When obstacles block the normal approach path, airplanes are forced to fly higher and land further down the runway to clear them safely. This effectively shortens the usable landing distance, which limits the types of aircraft that can use the runway and reduces overall safety margins.
What the Colors Mean:
-
Red: Obstacles that cross into the protected airspace by 10 feet or more.
-
Orange: Obstacles that enter the protected airspace by less than 10 feet.
-
Yellow: Objects that are close to the protected airspace but do not cross into it.
